[Update: Being fixed] Twitter ditching ‘Latest’ chronological feed option on the web, still available on iOS for now

Update: Twitter’s Kayvon Beykpour says this is a bug that it’s working on fixing. The Twitter Support account says the fix is rolled out.

Twitter is making a controversial change to its web application. Until recently, Twitter on the web allowed users to easily switch between an algorithmic feed and a chronological feed with a single click, but that option is now being removed completely for people who use Twitter in their browser.

iOS 12.4 jailbreak publicly released after Apple mistakenly unpatches vulnerability

A hacker has released the first public jailbreak for modern iPhones in several years, according to a new report from Motherboard. The report details that with the release of iOS 12.4, Apple accidentally unpatched a vulnerability that it had originally fixed in iOS 12.3, opening the door for this jailbreak to be publicly released for iOS 12.4.

Microsoft tells users to switch to iOS or Android as Windows Phone set for obsolescence

Microsoft is admitting smartphone defeat and is now officially urging any remaining Windows 10 Mobile users to switch to an iOS or Android device instead.

In an End of Support document spotted by Thurrott, Microsoft notifies users that Windows 10 Mobile will cease to receive new security updates after December 10, 2019.

Hands-on: Apple TV Remote App beta for the 4th-generation Apple TV [Video]

The new Apple TV Remote app, which Apple TV owners have been expecting since Eddy Cue acknowledged its development, is now available for testing. Available directly as an IPA installable via iTunes, the Apple TV Remote app can be accessed by registered Apple developers.

The Remote app has been designed to, as Apple states in its release notes, bring the “best of the Siri Remote” to iOS devices. Not only will the Remote app allow users to easily navigate the Apple TV interface, it can also be used as a controller to control basic games.

Apple releases iOS 9.3.3 beta 3 + tvOS 9.2.2 beta 3 to developers & public beta testers

While Apple has mostly moved on to iOS 10 beta testing at this point, the minor iOS 9.3.3 update is still in beta and received its third developer release today. iOS 9.3.3 beta 3 for developers brings the build to 13Y823. Changes so far haven’t been noticeable as the update is likely focused on security enhancements and bug fix improvements.

WSJ: iPhone 7 w/ similar design and removed headphone jack this fall, major changes next year

iPhone 7 rumors have been notably tame this year, and that’s because the next-generation iPhone is widely expected to be a further revision to the iPhone 6 series and not a radically different design. The Wall Street Journal is the latest to report on Apple’s expected plans for the iPhone 7, describing a situation where the iPhone 7 closely resembles the iPhone 6s minus the headphone jack. WSJ reports that this will result in a thinner design that’s more water-resistant than current models.

But the report also believes the 2017 iPhone will be dramatically different, featuring an OLED display like the Apple Watch and embedding the Touch ID sensor in the display while losing the Home button…

Apple to begin paying out $400M to customers tomorrow in ebook price-fixing settlement

Three years ago, Apple was found guilty of anticompetitive behavior centered around ebook pricing and price-fixing. The case was in limbo for years as Apple appealed and tried to fight the ruling, but earlier this year the Supreme Court declined to hear the company’s appeal, putting Apple on the hook for $450 million. Law firm Hagens Berman today issued a press release revealing that payouts will begin being sent to affected customers tomorrow, June 21st.
